Upon applying for a driver’s license, restriction codes are assigned depending on the type of motorized vehicle the applicant owns / intends to operate. For instance, only restriction codes 1, 2, and 4 are allowed for a non-professional driver’s license. You can look up how to apply for additional restriction codes here:
RESTRICTION CODES BASED ON GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT (GVW):
1 – Motorcycles/ Motorized Tricycles
2 – Vehicle up to 4500 KGS GVW
3 – Vehicle above 4500 KGS GVW
4 – Automatic clutch up to 4500 KGS GVW
5 – Automatic clutch above 4500 KGS GVW
6 – Articulated vehicle 1600 KGS GVW and below
7 – Articulated vehicle 1601 up to 4500 KGS GVW
8 – Articulated vehicle 4501 kgs and above GVW
CONDITIONS:
During the application process, the applicant will be assessed for certain conditions that would deem the driver capable of operating a vehicle safely. For example, the applicant will undergo an eye exam to determine if it would be necessary for the driver to wear glasses (condition A) while driving.
A – wear eyeglasses
B – drive only special equipment for upper limbs
C – drive only with special equipment for lower limbs
D – daylight driving only
E – accompanied by a person with normal hearing
