Switch Off Lights Not in Use
Lights left on eat up a lot of energy so be more mindful. Turn off
lights when you leave a room.
Unplug Electronic Devices Not in Use
Electronics consume energy even though they're just plugged in. So when
you're not using an electronic device like the TV or Air conditioning unit,
unplug it to reduce the energy used up.
Put Your Computer to Sleep
Setting your computer to sleep mode instead of allowing the screen saver
to run uses less energy so you get to save electricity. Doing so also uses less
power so you consume less battery if you have a laptop.
Don't Throw Away Broken Chargers and Batteries
Batteries and have lead, which can be harmful to the environment when
not disposed properly. There are malls which let people donate their broken
batteries or chargers. Or if you want to earn a little extra from it, consider
selling these at a junk weekend market where buyers will buy your chargers and
batteries for small price.
Don't Overcharge Your Gadgets
Overcharging not only eats up more energy but also shorten yours the
life span of your battery as well as your gadgets. Keep an eye on your gadget
whiles it's charging and unplug it once he battery nearly full.
Clean Your Aircon's Filter Regularly
Research shows that trapped dirt and lint in your aircon's filter will
force it to use more energy. Clean your aircon's filter every few weeks. Not
only will you make easy on the engine, you'll also be breathing clearer air,
too!
Set Your Appliances to Energy-Saving Mode
Most new appliances will have an energy saving mode. Enabling this will
also be lighter on your electric bill. Look into connecting your electric fan
or air conditioner to a timer so it only runs for a certain amount of time
while you sleep at night.
Change Your Light-bulbs
Make the switch from incandescent bulbs to compact fluorescent lamps
(CFLs). CFLs may be little expensive but they use less energy and last much
longer.
